I haven’t posted in a very long time, so here’s a brief update:
My general manager and I previously lived in a very comfortable home in Ponte Vedra, Florida. However, our illustrious HOA ensured that we could never, ever build anything resembling a workshop. I tried for years to make do with our existing two-car garage; houses do not have basements in Florida, so it’s very rare to park a car in a garage anyway.
So when a friend told us back in January about an older house on the west side of the St Johns River that had a giant yard (my GM loves her gardening) and a detached 900 s/f workshop (for yours truly), we couldn’t resist – we had to give it a look, at least.
The look turned into an offer, and the moving trucks rolled up.
To be sure, the house is older and smaller. That said, it is not a project house per se. The repairs and upgrades we’ve needed so far are pretty minimal: tune a door hinge or two, install LED-compatible dimmers, hang a ceiling fan here and there. Likewise, we had frequently commented on our last house being just a little too big for the two of us, so downsizing on square footage in the residence by about 25% didn’t seem like much of a sacrifice at all.
Hence my long absence from the social media landscape. So far, the shop has only served as storage. But now the work begins. I’m preparing to install insulation, climate control, a ‘clean room’ for digital-ish projects, improved lighting… It’s well on its way to becoming a proper maker’s studio.
So the projects and the posts will resume. Stay tuned!
